I'm especially drawn to the Akebia longeracemosa 'Victor's Secret' as it's a huge aesthetic improvement over the many other Akebia varieties usually found at nurseries. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like any nursery is currently propagating this variety so I don't know how to get one.

If you ever feel like sharing cuttings, I'm certain I can find something interesting to trade with you for cuttings of your Akebia 'Victor's Secret' (I'm just a little north of you in Washington).Johann's Gardenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03999476435065811505noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-814656844817347020.post-48111797263028836592022-10-28T21:12:00.748-07:002022-10-28T21:12:00.748-07:00this was an extremely weird internet collision: un...this was an extremely weird internet collision: unlike the spam comment above, I was *actually* searching for info/pictures relevant to my very old furnace situation ... which is also a Sandberg ("Fire King"!) ... because I'm also in Portland. And on clicking through to your main page to see whether the blog was still alive ... it turns out we also like the same plants? I purchased M. fremontii, which will be making the move to Central Oregon. I’m pretty sure I bought a nevinii from Sean 10-12 years ago which I planted along Riverplace Esplanade, where a vandal took particular interest in it…destroying it over a couple years.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-814656844817347020.post-35887229096495195482022-05-16T20:08:34.564-07:002022-05-16T20:08:34.564-07:00Oh, that’s so good to know! I'm trying 'Charity' for a second time and it seems to just sit there. Do they take a while to get going? I love the creeping variety and it has performed wonderfully well. 'Soft Career' is also doing well. By the way, we have that one on hand (Yard N' Garden Land in Vancouver). I should have been better about identifying Asian vs. American plants in my post, but thinking about which plants come from where that makes my head hurt, especially remembering when my editor tried to change my description of Mahonia eurybracteata ‘Soft Caress’ in the book to include the words "Oregon grape". As to your (hopefully temporary) departure from blogdom, I can appreciate that we all needed to find our own way of navigating through the past couple of years. A bit surprised you yanked your R. sanguineum, but I know what you mean about the color: there are some gorgeous hot pink ones out there, so why put up with a sappy pink?
Best of all, I know you don't miss one blade of that turf you removed. I've read many of those studies about how you shouldn't read from a screen before going to bed. The only time I've had trouble sleeping is when I worry about if they're right. Anyway...nice work!
