It's mushroom season!

Ask me how I know.

Our wood chip pathway has gotten totally overrun with them.

The six inches of rain we got in September has turned our backyard into a terrifying fungal lab experiment. If only they were edible! "Do you like your lasagna? We harvested the mushrooms from under the Sedum 'Autumn Joy.' The mushrooms in the salad came from the walkway." Ick.

  1. Same here. I wouldn't pick them for eating either. I'm always a bit leary of the people who forage for mushrooms. I forage for mine at the grocery store.

  3. As much as I'd hate to live so far out of town, her location has so many enviable qualities!

  4. I don't think I'd ever trust anything I picked. I get paranoid trimming my rhubarb. What I missed a tiny piece of leaf and everyone gets poisoned?

  5. They really are just everywhere right now, aren't they! My neighbor has some of the most sinister-looking ones I've ever seen…I'm nervous getting to close to them…I've seen one too many X-Files episodes.

  6. Oh my god, every time a bird or a squirrel does something odd in my yard my brain immediately goes to, "This is how an X-Files ep would start and I'm going to die."

  7. They're popping up all over here too, even though we haven't had a fraction of your rain. There are some thin-stemmed black-headed ones that are really creepy...

  10. I found some shaggy manes along the roadside. Lots of other types look inviting but the mushroom book is a little too vague to trust. Linda, are you good at mushroom ID? C'mon out!

  12. I love seeing the mushrooms pop up everywhere. Haven't seen too many in my garden this year though. Go ahead, try some. You may see some really interesting things.
